The Guildhall Feoffment in Bury St Edmunds dates back to the late 15th century, when local benefactors gave land and buildings “for the common profit and benefit” of the town.
Over time, the Trust built a significant portfolio of civic and charitable property, including the Guildhall, Moyse’s Hall, No Man’s Meadow, and land for education and community use.
These assets have long supported the town—funding civic life after the Abbey’s dissolution, providing public spaces, and enabling education and welfare through buildings such as the Guildhall Feoffment School.
Today, although the estate is smaller, the Trust continues to care for important historic and community assets. Its focus now includes providing almshouse accommodation and supporting local charities, continuing its mission to benefit the people of Bury St Edmunds.
