We stumbled across some old photos today showing the transformation of our College Square Gardens — and what a transformation it was!
It’s hard to believe that this beautiful garden was once little more than a mass of concrete! It certainly didn’t do justice to the beautiful houses surrounding what would eventually become our much-loved garden.
The transformation began with the building of the beautiful masonry planters and the creation of garden beds, ready for the stars of the show — our roses.
In 1999, the newly transformed gardens were officially opened, and thankfully, they’ve gone from strength to strength ever since.
Today, the garden is lovingly cared for by our new gardener, Vicky, alongside some very dedicated residents. Lin can often be found in her happy place — secateurs or watering can in hand, carefully pruning and watering away! 🌿 And, of course, we mustn’t forget our wonderful volunteer Derek, who is always ready to lend a hand.
From concrete jungle to blooming beauty, College Square Gardens have certainly come a long way — and we think the roses would agree! Here’s to many more years of growing, blooming and enjoying our very special gardens
